Seth Kantner - In Person Author Event!

****UPDATE! - THIS EVENT IS NOW FULL! THANK YOU FOR YOUR EXUBERANT SUPPORT! - UPDATE! ****

Finally! An in-person author event!

We are thrilled to announce that our friend Seth Kantner will be with us for a reading and PowerPoint presentation to celebrate the publication of "A Thousand Trails Home" on November 11th at 7pm here at Port Book and News!

It has been years since we have been able to have him with us, down from his home in Kotzebue, Alaska. We are excited to have our first return to in-person author events be with Seth! His readings and PowerPoints for each of his previous books are still remembered by those fortunate enough to be in attendance.

The title "A Thousand Trails Home" refers to the annual caribou migration, when as a child Seth could witness 500,000 caribou passing right in front of the sod igloo in which he was raised. No one writes with greater knowledge, authenticity or credibility about the landscape and culture of their home than Seth Kantner does about Alaska. Reading a book by Seth will transport you to a place very few of us will ever get to see. In addition to being one of Alaska's most treasured writers, Seth is an accomplished natural history photographer. His striking photography accompanies the text.

Mary Roach says "Seth Kantner is the most interesting person and the finest writer I know. I savor his writing as I have savored the work of Annie Proulx and John McPhee. Nature is not landscape or subject matter for him, it is sustenance, literal and emotional. He doesn't just write what he knows, he writes what he lives and breathes. This book is extraordinary."

And this event should be extraordinary. Space will be limited so we can maintain social distancing. Masking and proof of vaccination will be required. If you are interested in attending, please contact the store so we can develop an attendance sheet.

We cannot wait to see all of you here! "A Thousand Trails Home: Living With Caribou" is published by Mountaineers Books in Seattle, and is the cover and lead title of their Winter catalogue.
