The Foothills Writers Series & Port Book and News presents – Carmen Germain, Bethany Reid, & Karen Whalley

Karen Whalley received the Rona Jaffe Award for poetry.  Her poems have appeared in American Poetry Review, The Sun Magazine, Harvard Review, Mississippi Review, among others, and her first book of poems, The Rented Violin, was published by Ausable Press. My Own Name Seems Strange to Me was the 2018 Off the Grid Poetry Prize winner and was released in January 2019. Karen is a Olympic Peninsula resident.

Bethany Reid’s two most recent books are Sparrow, which won the 2012 Gell Poetry Prize, and Body My House (2018), published by Seattle’s Goldfish Press. Her poems have appeared in numerous journals, including Blackbird, Broken Bridge Review, Cairn, Calyx, The MacGuffin, Pontoon, and Prairie Schooner. She lives and writes in Edmonds, Washington, and blogs about all of it at www.bethanyareid.com.

Carmen Germain is the author of the chapbook Living Room, Earth (Pathwise Press) and the collection These Things I Will Take with Me (Cherry Grove). Cider Press Review nominated her work for Best of the Web in 2016 she has received a Washington Community Colleges Humanities Association award for poetry. And her work has appeared in Flyway, The Madison Review, Cold Mountain Review, Poet Lore, and Natural Bridge as well as in many anthologies, and she co-directed this series for many years. A visual artist as well as a poet, Germain created the cover art for her newest collection The Old Refusals (MoonPath Press). Carmen is a resident of the Olympic Peninsula.
