Bookshop.org - A New Way to Support Indie Bookstores!
Here at Port Book and News, we are constantly looking for new ways to help our customers find fabulous new books to read. With the onset of the global pandemic, government restrictions have encouraged us to expand our presence online in hurry. From website orders, phone orders, shipping to distant addresses, and multiple new social media accounts, we've worked hard to adapt and grow despite challenging circumstances. Indie bookstores have faced numerous obstacles over the years, and the online shopping world (and more specifically A**zon) has been one of the biggest hurdles. Indies thrive on the personalized experience of browsing a curated shop, the relationships between customer and shop clerks, and their place as anchors in their unique communities. It can be difficult to translate those relationships and interactions into an online format.
In the last two years, a new online platform has been created to help change that. Bookshop.org is a benefit corporation, a corporation dedicated to the public good, with a mission to financially support local independent bookstores designed to create an easy convenient way to purchase books online and support your local indies (like PBN!) at the same time. When you order through our Bookshop.org page, rest assured that full profits from the sale go directly to the store. Otherwise, your orders from other Bookshop pages will contribute to an earnings pool that will be evenly distributed among independent bookstores (even those that don’t use Bookshop).
Here at Port Book and News, Helena has worked hard to curate a wide range of fascinating book lists for our new Bookshop.org website. This new website in no way replaces our current one, it's merely an additional place to discover new titles we're excited by. We're thrilled to add this to our collection of online shopping methods, and we hope you'll take time to check it out! We'd love to hear your thoughts and questions!
