Alice Derry -- Hunger

Our next author event will be the book launch for Alice Derry's new volume of poetry, Hunger. It will take place at the Heritage Center, 401 E First Street at 7 PM, January 26th, co-sponsored by Port Book and News and the Elwha Klallam Nation. Alice will be joined at the podium by Nation members Brenda Francis-Thomas and Chris Thomas. The new book gathers poems which speak to physical hunger, psychological hunger and spiritual longing. The alternative title to the book is “The Extravagance of Our Longing.” As in previous volumes, Derry continues to write about family, the natural world, and social justice. You are cordially invited to attend, the event is free; donations to the Elwha Klallam Nation are always welcome.

Alice Derry is a professor emerita at Peninsula College, and is the author of four previous full collections of poetry: Strangers to Their Courage (2001), a finalist for the Washington Book Award; Stages of Twilight (1986), winner of the King County Publication Award; Clearwater (1997); and Tremolo (2012). She has published several chapbooks including translations from the German poet Rainer Rilke. During her years here on the Peninsula Alice has touched many lives in wondrous ways she does not even know.
